Marshall MG30DFX Guitar Combo Amplifier: A Real Pro!

Marshall MG30DFX Guitar Combo AmplifierLast week I had the opportunity to use and test a Marshall MG30DFX Combo Amplifier from a friend of mine. Since I love Marshall amps but don’t own one, I was very pleased to use this amp for a couple of days.

When a product comes from a company like Marshall, you know it’s going to perform. Marshall is simply a top manufacturer of amplifiers and has created a niche for itself with its high end products.

After using the Marshall MG30DFX Guitar Combo Amplifier I came to one simple conclusion: It simply stands true to the name of the company. This compact sized amp is one hell of a rugged performer and I really enjoyed it.

The amp does not have a world of features to boast of, but what’s there really enhances the performance of the guitar. There are two channels, clean and overdrive which are foot switchable. The amp also has independent tone controls for the bass and treble on each of the channels. The amp also has contour control which helps in scooping and mid sweep.

Features

  • A nice feature of this amp is the twin foot switchable channel, clean and overdrive.
  • The bass and treble controls on each of these channels are a major help in achieving better tonal quality.
  • The amp has a CD input system which will now allow you to play along with your favorite songs.
  • There are some great built in digital effects like flange, delay, chorus and reverb.
  • The amp also has a 10 inch custom voiced speaker which makes it extremely clear and loud.
  • It has two jacks, emulated line out jack and headphone jack.
  • It has one 10 inch speaker, 2 channels and 30 Watts output (RMS), enough to rock like hell!

My Personal Review

Features: 8

The digital effects are very good and they sound really great. The amp has some of the most basic and best effects for any guitar. The speaker is of excellent quality. The twin foot switchable channels are also easy to use and handle.

Sound: 8

The amp itself is not that big, but don’t let its size fool you. This baby screams! The 30 Watts provide plenty of power to rock your ass off. Don’t expect this amp to perform well at an outdoor gig or concert, but for home use, studio work or a small gig at your local pub this amp is all you need. I was very pleased with the clean tone as well as the overdrive. Of course you can use your own effect pedals or stomp boxes with it. I always play through my Line6 POD. With this Marshall amp my own sound just rocked!

Quality: 9

It is made in Korea but the quality that you associate with Marshall can be clearly seen in this one as well. You will have years of trouble free performance with this one.

Value: 9

If you are looking for a small gig amp, then this Marshall MG30DFX might be the right amp for you. You can buy this one for 200-250 bucks. For that price you’ll have an amp which lasts you many many years.

Support: 8

I’ve never needed Marshall’s customer support, but when their support is as good as their amps, you don’t have anything to worry about.

Overall: 8

Simply put this amp is just great. I really enjoyed using it. Even dough it only has 30 Watts, this amp lends itself perfectly for home use, to practice and for playing a small gig.
